Competing magnetic orders and multipolar Weyl fermions in 227 pyrochlore iridates

چکیده
Owing to comparably strong spin-orbit coupling and Hubbard interaction, iridium based 227 pyrochlore oxides harbor a rich confluence of competing magnetic orders emergent multipolar Weyl quasiparticles. Here we show that this family materials is predominantly susceptible toward the nucleation electronic noncoplanar all-in all-out (AIAO) three-in one-out (3I1O) orders, respectively transforming under singlet $A_{2u}$ triplet $T_{1u}$ representations, supporting octupolar dipolar fermions, favored by on-site nearest-neighbor ferromagnetic interaction. Furthermore, coplanar order generically appears as an intermediate phase between them. This transforms $T_{2u}$ representation also hosts fermions. With AIAO 3I1O phases possibly being realized in (Nd$_{1-x}$Pr$_{x}$)$_2$Ir$_2$O$_7$ when $x=0$ 1, respectively, intervening can principle be found at doping ($0<x<1$) or pressured (hydrostatic) Nd$_2$Ir$_2$O$_7$.

Anisotropy-Tuned Magnetic Order in Pyrochlore Iridates.
The magnetic behavior of polycrystalline samples of Er(2)Ir(2)O(7) and Tb(2)Ir(2)O(7) pyrochlores is studied by magnetization measurements and neutron diffraction. Both compounds undergo a magnetic transition at 140 and 130 K, respectively, associated with an ordering of the Ir sublattice, signaled by thermomagnetic hysteresis. In Tb(2)Ir(2)O(7), we show that the Ir molecular field leads the Tb...
متن کاملEmergent topological phenomena in thin films of pyrochlore iridates.
Because of the recent development of thin film and artificial superstructure growth techniques, it is possible to control the dimensionality of the system, smoothly between two and three dimensions. In this Letter we unveil the dimensional crossover of emergent topological phenomena in correlated topological materials. In particular, by focusing on the thin film of pyrochlore iridate antiferrom...

The interplay between electron correlation and spin-orbit coupling in solids has been proven to be an abundant gold mine for emergent topological phases. Here we report the results of systematic magnetotransport study on bandwidth-controlled pyrochlore iridates R2Ir2O7 near quantum metal-insulator transition (MIT). The application of a magnetic field along [001] crystallographic direction (H//[...
متن کاملWeyl magnons in breathing pyrochlore antiferromagnets
Frustrated quantum magnets not only provide exotic ground states and unusual magnetic structures, but also support unconventional excitations in many cases. Using a physically relevant spin model for a breathing pyrochlore lattice, we discuss the presence of topological linear band crossings of magnons in antiferromagnets. These are the analogues of Weyl fermions in electronic systems, which we...
متن کاملCompeting Orders and Anomalies
A conservation law is one of the most fundamental properties in nature, but a certain class of conservation "laws" could be spoiled by intrinsic quantum mechanical effects, so-called quantum anomalies. Profound properties of the anomalies have deepened our understanding in quantum many body systems. Here, we investigate quantum anomaly effects in quantum phase transitions between competing orde...
